Best of Gourmet Latino Festival
Last month (still playing catch up) we attended the Gourmet Latino Festival at the Astor Center and were able to experience the fine culture and flavors of Latin America!
Having arrived with empty stomachs, we concurred that the best way to start off the feast was to have some Del Maguey, Single Village Mezcals. Sucking on the agave plant (bottom left) brings out its smokey, deep and warm flavors. Sip it, dont shoot it.
And although yes, Mercadito had irresistible shrimp tacos and Gabbana served a juicy beef veal meatball slider but Rayuela,at 164 Allen St, hands down won me over.
Chef Maximo Tejada has a 5Course Tasting Menu that you should definitely check out. Picture shown above is Costillas a lo Caballo: tamarind glazed short ribs served with foie gras infused polenta, and a double cooked egg. Topped with lobster chimichurri. Seriously. Amazing.
