Back in March, Cindy and I made a silly bet, both confident in our decision. In the end, winner would get to choose restaurant, loser would have to pay. I won...graciously of course.
We dined at the new, but temporary, revolving restaurant in Nolita, What Happens When. The basic concept is: each month the menu, theme, sound and decoration changes.
Movement #3 was based on Renoirs 19th century French garden party and lasts from March 29- April 25th. Chef John Fraser creates a delicious 3course meal. You can find food pictures on Cindy's blog: www.ChubbyChineseGirl.com.
But what amazed me the most was the intense attention to details---especially since in 30 days they would essentially be tearing the place down to rebuild another theme! They gave more thought in creating and romancing this installation than most long term restaurants ever do...
From French music softly playing in the background, dancing lights, the pink and green awning, hidden utensil drawer, delicate dishes, flowers potted in glass cups...
...to the bathroom. Yes, I took pictures of the bathroom painting, pink tassels and little signage. Ha, dont judge me...
The whole experience as a whole was a visual and sensual overflow. I had gone in thinking that this 'pop up' would be cheesy but was happily surprised. Well done in creating a successful ambiance, team! (And thanks Cindy for dinner <3)
What Happens When ends September 2011.
